Comments on Spring 2012 schedule?

Hi all, I'm a post-bacc student getting the dental prereqs done. Below are my two options for next semester's schedule. What do you think? Plan A or Plan B, and why?

Plan A:
OChem II, Lab
Physics II, Lab
Gen Chem II, Lab

OR

Plan B:
OchemII, Lab
Physics II, lab
General Bio II, Lab

notes: I took gen chem I last summer and gen bio I in spring '11.
Do either of my plans look doable?

I would personally opt for the ochem and gen chem 2 route together with the physics. I think it would be really tough, but it will give u alot of what you need in order to prep to take the DAT and perform really well. Just my 2 cents.

Depends. What are you taking for fall semester? I ask because you don't want to take too many leaps in classes. If you have the adequate preparation and prerequisite for the following classes, then it should be okay for either plan A or plan B.


If that were my schedule choices, I would do plan B. Plan A sounds like a lot of problem solving ALLLL the time (ochem, physics, and gchem are all about solving problems, like math). Reading helps in these classes, but doing well requires knowing how to manipulate word problems into calculations or reactions. If you're into doing work problems all the time and are good at it, then go for plan A. I like how plan B has a little more variety with biology. You just read, memorize facts, and occasionally do biology problem sets.

But I'm different and you're different. Know what works best for you.

Since you most likely did not take the DAT yet, I would suggest a third route: Ochem, Gen Chem, and Bio, since those three will be on the DAT. That way you can apply next year, take the DAT, and only later the year before dental school, while you do supplemental apps and interviews I suggest you take Physics, and Biochem.

Yeah...I'm already taking physics 1 this semester so it would probably not be wise to take physics 2 so much later. I haven't taken the DAT yet...ill be done with my core Bio, ochem and gchem prereqs as of this summer so ill take it sometime next Dec I think.

I'm leaning more toward Plan B Right now...don't think I want to be too swamped with physics and chem problem solving all semester long...

If I remember correctly.. Physics 2 was very different from physics 1. So I don't think it would be a problem to take physics later. I vote for option C: ochem 2, gen Chem 2, bio 2

Yes, it is. At my school you're only required to have one semester of gchem for ochem.

Really? Hmmm.. I still think I might as well finish the physics series since I always started. Is GChem II a more quantitative version of gchem I?
