Theres this article here on r/premed:

The user believes theres a stategy to this. Is this true? Does not selecting Plan to Enroll (PTE) on April 30 make you seem more desirable to some schools who have you on their waitlist?

It seems a little crazy to me because if you don't select PTE then won't you be risking not getting accepted anywhere?

Here’s how I see it.

If you select PTE and send an LOI then it makes you appealing.

If you select PTE but don’t send an LOI the school will probably not bother with you.

If you don’t select PTE then you’re just at the school’s mercy hoping that spots open up.

Please don’t believe this. There is no strategy, just follow the guidelines. Waitlisted schools know that you’re told to select PTE by April 30th. You won’t be held accountable for following that rule; in fact, it shows you’ve been accepted somewhere, whereas not selecting anything suggests you’re only on waitlists (and maybe less desirable as a candidate). Also, not selecting PTE by April 30th could mean your acceptance being rescinded and having to rely on those waitlists. Not a position you want to put yourself in.
