Has anyone else had a problem with the committee letter holding up the entire application? I'm extremely frustrated about this and don't know how I should proceed. I don't want to just sit back and wait and then not get accepted anywhere (or anywhere I really want to go) because of this.

My school has had over 6 weeks to send mine out, and we have to pay a fee to have this done.

That sucks. Mine was finished in March but they weren't allowed to send it out til the app opened up

That's rough - maybe hound them a bit more. Was that the only letter of recommendation you sent?

I've hardly bothered them and been patiently waiting, but the few emails ive sent them have not been well received. They're giving me the vibe of "stop bothering me with these questions or else I won't write this letter for you anymore". The letter from my dentist has been in since mid August.

I can relate. This happened to me last year..I had to wait 2 months. It's hard because the person sending it out is the same person that makes the committee cover letter so you want to pressure them but not get on their bad side. tough situation. 🙁

Is there a dean you can talk to? Maybe he/she can address the issue with the committee in a way that doesn't put a target on you but can also place some sense of urgency on the situation.

Unfortunately the dean is the person I am having an issue with 🙁

I had this same issue. I bugged my committee chair and his assistant a good bit, but there's only so much you can do. I reached out to a top choice school and told them the committee letter had been holding things up for a month and a half, and I was worried that it would ruin my chances. They told me it wasn't a big deal yet, and to just wait for it to get uploaded to aadsas, as opposed to bypassing the committee in the meantime with individual letters (which is what I was strongly considering.) The letter got uploaded soon thereafter, and hopefully no harm has been done. I am however, still waiting to get some interview love. In any case, maybe you can touch base with a couple of your top schools and get their advice.

I had the same problem. I submitted my application 5th batch, but my application was not complete until literally a few days ago because of the committee letter. By now, most dental schools that I am interested in distributed the pre-December 1 interviews and I am down in the gutter with average DAT scores.Wish me luck with the application process!

At what point is it safe to assume they're just intentionally giving me a hard time/****ing with me? It's been about 2 and a half days since I've emailed the school and no one had gotten back to me.

I'll add that I've been assertive, but perfectly polite in all of my contact with the offixe

Whenever possible, I'd go in and speak face to face with the most influential person you can reach. People have a lot harder time ignoring you/being rude/dodging responsibilities in person, whereas an email is easy to "miss."

I'm just worried they're going to pull crap about how they think I'm being crazy. For instance, they could say they don't understand why I think they're not trying to do everything possible to help me or why I think they're not on my side. Or that 2 1/2 days is not that long of a time to be waiting for an answer. It's clear to me they're messing with me, but i don't had any proof, just a very strong gut feeling.

I'm sorry to hear that. Those type of school staff should be fired and put someone else who is willing to help out students.

That really sucks! Did you submit your stuff to the committee on time? If you did everything according to their timeline, you should definitely pay them a visit. Good luck!

Same thing happened to me, I contacted the dean of the Biology department and he did in one day what I had been trying to accomplish for 3 months.

I did meet all the deadlines. I've already graduated, so going to see anyone in person wouldn't be possible. I've made calls--they go ignored too. 3 business says since my last email with no response still.

I've gotten 3 interviews so far, so I can't complain too much, but this is just getting ridiculous.

The best thing to do is contact the people who hired the people you are trying to get to send your committee letter...They will FIND them on campus or at home and personally tell them to DO THEIR JOB.

Yup. Mine was held back for a few weeks. I tried emailing him a few times but that didn't seem to work at all. so I just kept calling the office and asked for him/ asked to check on my status. I never got to speak to him on the phone tho. So I just emailed him and CCed his boss -ish person. I was gonna go see him in person (i'm graduated and no longer live on campus) but my committee letter got done 2 days after that.
