The dental school application process is stressful for me, especially when there are things that are out of my control. Like how my application is complete, except for my committee LOE. It's taking so long for them to just write a letter. I met with my advisor today, who had a big stack of folders on his desk from all the LOEs he's working on, and he hasn't started mine yet. He's going in order of when people took the DAT or MCAT, and he's still writing letters for people who took their test a month before me (my test was July 7).

I see people on this forum getting interview offers, and all I'm getting is letters from dental schools saying that my app is complete except for the LOE. I feel like my chances of acceptance are lowering every day that it's not in. Maybe I should have gotten individual letters instead of the committee one. Should I be stressing out like I am, or is it going to be ok? How late is too late? I know there's nothing I can do, but I just wanted to vent. Thanks for reading this.

Option B: Politely request your LOR writers to send a copy of the letter directly to AADSAS.

I am in the same boat. just be patient and just remember committee leter looks much better than individual letters, still is early in the game.
good luck 👍

I think it is much more important at this point for the schools to get some letters.

Do you mean OP send a copy of letters to the each school that he applied?.
because AADSAS is waiting for commitee leter not individuals.
another point; Dental schools are not based on first come first serve, Do you think D schools will put aside the application with GPA 3.9 and DAT 22/22/23 even they recieve the LoRs in Sep?!

I'm saying have the LOR writers send the letters to address via the portal. All he/she has to do is delete the commitee entery and enter each of the individual writers (if they agree in the first place).
Actually many schools have rolling admissions and YES they will put aside the application if is not complete (as they no doubt have already done). Now this doesnt mean that he/she will get rejected.... only that the schools will wait till everything is in and then he/she will get those interviews. What are you thinking at schools will overlook this just because of the outstading scores? Sorry to say but LORs are very important according to schools... one of doc toothaches' threads shows that.
I'm just trying offer some advice to the OP since it seems as if the advisor will not get it his/her in any reasonable amount of time. It would be a shame in those scores are being held back by that letter.

Thanks, I appreciate reading your differing opinions - I hadn't thought about canceling the committee letter and submitting individual letters. But if I do that, there's no guarantee that I'll be able to get 4 different people to all do something in a timely manner. Especially one of my professors - I asked him for a LOE in October, and he didn't write it until June.

What I might be able to do is cancel the committee letter and just have my advisor submit my various individual LOEs as one file to AADSAS. But I'm still not sure that canceling the committee letter is a good idea. What do you guys think?

Will the letters be sent immediately if you opt out of a committee letter?
If yes, then if I was you, I would just have my LORs sent because it is already late August.

with your stats i would definitely work on getting the letters in individually. though the committee letter may sound more attractive, your dat and gpa are awesome so i'm sure adcoms aren't using a committee vs. individual LOR comparison as a basis for an interview invite. i think you should do whatever you can to just get that application completed.

i speak with similar frustration...it took me five weeks to get my advisor to attach my committee letter after my app was complete. who knows the reason he was out, but it was frustrating as hell to get it finished.

That is logic now. agree 100% 👍

^ very good point 👍
IMO, if they send commitee letter by mid Sep, you will be in early game and will get many pre Dec interview.

Eventualy my Committee Packet mailed out last Tuesday, almost after 4 months!
Hopefuly you have good news from your school too. I have already one september interview from my top choise in my pocket. 🙂
if I had your stats I never worry my friend good luck 👍

Thanks again for everyone's advice - I did cancel my committee letter, and I submitted individual letters of evaluation. It is finally all submitted today - I wish I could have gotten everything done sooner, but right now I'm just happy that it's finally done. Even without any LOEs, I got an interview invite from BU. Hopefully I will be getting a few more in the near future.

go to the committee ask them for the individual letters if you don't already have them, send them interfolio and then forward those to AADSAS as a committee letter. i personally skipped the committee review b/c i didn't need ANOTHER person evaluating me.

I had the SAME problem, my committee letter was just submitted about a week ago, so most of my schools are still e-mailing me saying my application is incomplete. However, I still got an interview invite at NOVA in early august even without the LORs, so maybe some schools do not require them for an interview?
