Every time I shadow/volunteer I hear all these abbreviations that I can't remember when I get home to look them up. When the dentist is doing exams, he calls out a bunch of abbreviates (that mean decay, cavity, etc)..could anyone quickly summarize some of the most common abbreviations so that I can think about them before my next shadowing experience?

Thank you, thank you and thank yew!

the basics

O = occlusal
M= mesial
D = distal
F or B = Facial or Buccal
L = lingual

so like if he says DO comp/amal, it means the Distal Occusal side of a tooth that has filling, or needs TX for filling.

That's what I heard the most of. One guy had 10 cavities (admitted to drinking at least 6 mt dews a day!) and the doctor was rambling off, "MOD on #13, DO on #14, MO on #20, MOD on #30", it was ridiculous
