Just wondering if schools will be alright with me taking all my pre-reqs at a university while I take the rest of my social sciences/humanities online at a CC in the same semester due to money?

Most DO schools will be fine with that. Don't know about MD.

If you use the search function you will find a number of debates on CC vs. 4-year.

Personally, I took a great many classes from CC (some of which were done on line) and I have had 19 interview invites out of 22 schools I applied to, including invites to some rather exclusive MD schools (14/17MD and 3/3 DO). Needless to say I also have multiple acceptances.

I have been questioned as to why I chose to take classes at CC/on-line and I simply answered that despite my aspirations to be a doctor I still had to meet responsibilities to my family and make money/keep family financially sustainable. Any questioning ended there.

In general, it is my unerstanding that you in-state/in-area meical schools will be more familiar with quality of local CC and wil judge it accordingly. Remote (all other) medical schools, esp. MD, will have significantly more bias. Which is not a big deal if you have all As. It will be Bs/Cs from a CC that can kill ya.

I think if you take all or most of your prereqs at a 4-year and excel in them, then you'll be fine. You'll have a 4-year bachelors degree when you're done right?

Ace your prereqs at CC, and do well on the MCAT to show that you actually learned the material in CC.

I think DO schools should be fine with this, especially if you do well in upper-level courses at a 4-year university. For MD schools, top-ranked ones might look down on your having done all your prereqs at a CC.

As long as you get As in your Uni classes. As at CC and Bs or worse at uni = bad.

What if I have one C on gen chem 1 at a CC but the rest A's in other pre reqs and other science classes (A&P, microbiology)? I have A's at my university pre reqs with a 3.6 GPA. I really do not have time to retake chem 1.

One C isn't going to kill you.

Awesome. Thanks everyone again for all the responses. This forum is great! Many more questions will be asked 🙂

Doing your humanities at a CC and pre-reqs at a 4-year? Just don't bomb anything and you'll be just fine.

Just do some research on the online stuff, as I dunno how online humanities carry over to your application.
