hey guys, just wondering what's a good level of community service to have when applying for arizona? i currently have 160 hrs and will probably be at around 200 hours by the time college is over for me...i heard people say arizona prefers people with hundreds and hundreds of cs hours, but exactly how many hundreds is good enough?

best

Are you from AZ? Are you planning a career in public health dentistry or community based dentistry? Don't just volunteer because you think a school is looking for it. Do it because your heart is telling you to.

1. im not from az, im from ca

2. im planning on being a general dentist, if that's what u mean by community based dentistry

3. obviously i didnt rack up 160 hours worth of community service just to apply for dental school. but i would like to gage where im at and whether i should go the extra mile for some more hours if that will help me get into arizona

Find clinics to volunteer in, especially those focusing on undeserved areas. Show your awareness that many areas lack proper dental care. Try to make some of your service dental related, if possible.

I would say you need 200+ for ASDOH. I had nearly 150 and when I got rejected and called they said they wanted to see more hours and dental volunteer work.

got it...thanks for the feedback...i probably will not be applying to arizona then

From what i was told when I met with an admissions advisor at ASDOH, he said that the school really likes to see around 600 hours of comm. service. And as told above, the service should be in a dental clinic or community health center that serves underserved populations.
