I'll be starting at NYU in the fall. I was considering living in Jersey City and commuting to NYU. For anyone who is currently doing this or is planning on doing it: if i were to take the path from Journal Square station in Jersey City, how long does it take to get to the NYU dental building (which i think is on 24th st).

Or is it better for me to live in queens (where i can find similar monthly rent) and commute from there to NYU??

Which is the fastest route?? What areaa in queens would be the closest (what subways would i have to take)..I've heard Astoria is close..but not sure..

My friend lived in Jersey city and commuted to NYU. As long as you are close to the path train your commute should not be that bad.

I dont know how long the path from jersey city to the 23rd and 6ave stop takes but....

You'll take the path to 23rd and 6th if i'm not mistaken...could be 19th and 6th ave..dont really remember...

if you get off at 23rd then you'll have to either walk the 6 avenues or take the bus which will pick u up right where you get out at 23rd...I usually walk it from lex to 1st which takes me about 10 minutes, the walk from 6th avenue is probably 15-20 minutes....if you get the bus quickly though it'll probably take you 10 mins to get to 1st ave....thats assuming you dont have to wait for the bus that long.

Thanks for the info guys. Just trying to figure out how long the commute will be from diff areas...anybody commuting from queens?

I have friends from both areas...Queens and Jersey City. From what Ive gathered...if you live near a PATH train...the commute is much shorter than from Queens.

Jersey City by Path train is a very easy commute. As above poster stated get off at 23 Street and Sixth Avenue -- not too long of a walk. The train itself will take less than 15 minutes. Commuting from queens you will have at least as much of a train ride, if not longer, and also probably as far of a walk from the train station to the school. Jersey City has quite a few options in type of housing available and price range -- it is definitely becoming a more and more popular place to live for people who go to school or work in NYC. I highly recommend it!
