Hi,

If anyone lives in San Diego and has a good idea of how to get from Fashion Valley/Mission Valley to UCSD I would greatly appreciate it if you can share the info with me!!! I will be living in Fashion Valley for next year and I need to know a good way to get to UCSD (besides driving to campus and paying the $500 parking permit).

The MTS quickest route takes 47 mintues to get there!!! And I will be living 10 miles away, so the 47 mintues in the bus sounds ridiculous!

Thanks!

The first question to ask is: Do you have a car?

Public transportation in San Diego is terribly bad. Not to mention unreliable. The website says 47 minutes, but in reality its going to take you at least an hour. You can try to see if that works out, but if I were you, I'd drive. If you lived closer to the campus, UCSD operates its own shuttle bus that could take you to school.

So for after you get a car (which really is a must)....

163N to 805N is the normal route, but 8W to 5N will work if that is messed up. Once you get up near UCSD (and assuming you're wise and don't want to waste your money on a parking permit), park either at LJ Village Square or UTC mall and take the Cityshuttle to campus.

btw if you have the option, I'd try to find a place to live closer than Mission Valley. Between the malls, events at Qualcomm Stadium, and people trying to get to SDSU/east county, the traffic is generally ****ty. Not to mention, it's kinda far from UCSD, considering you could find places much closer for the same price.

Hi there,

I commuted from north county for all of my undergrad and spent my first year trying to avoid getting a parking permit. As mentioned, If you have a car you could try parking at UTC and taking the shuttle from there, but Fashion Valley is a good distance away that not having a car to get around is going to be difficult. I eventually gave in and bought the permit because it took forever just to get on campus. You could also try checking out the UCSD transportation services online and see what options they offer about vanpools in your area or stops on the shuttle line.

I also echo Bluntman's suggestion to look into housing closer to UCSD--you will save a ton of time being stuck in traffic. Best wishes 🙂

Oops, should have said that to begin with. I do have a car, and it will be a ~15 minute drive to UCSD from my apartment. Do you know of any tricks, like driving to a mall or something, and taking a shuttle to UCSD?

Thanks!!!!

Yup...see my previous post. 🙂

Better method.

Walk up the hill (Bachman Dr.) and take the free shuttle from the hospital to campus. It leaves every 30 min.

I live in Hillcrest and that's how I get to UCSD.

PM me where in Fashion Valley you are and I can tell you how long it would take.
