Commuting to Work Question

I'm surprised there aren't a bunch of CA pharmacists on here talking about their 3 - 4 hour commute. Doesn't everyone in CA have a 3 -4 hour commute?

Traffic is bad but you just live closer to work.

I’m in SoCal and took my commute from 60ish Miles one way to 6 miles one way. Takes half the time though, no freeways.

I'm a new grad and I'm looking into getting my first job. However, it's possible that I will be commuting 80 miles toward and back from work. Is it worth it? Should I just do it to gain experience first and then hopefully request a better location later on?

Updated Questions:

Is it better to take a full time job far away from home or a part time job where you can live at home first?

I heard most apartments are 1 year leases, does that mean I can't transfer locations before the year ends? (if i dont want to waste money that is)

I am not doubting that your commute from your parents' door step is 80 miles one way. I do doubt, though, that there is nothing in between point A (your parents' home) and point B (the Walmart location where you got a job - well, it has to be a walmart). Try to find something in between. If you can cut the commute down to 30 minutes, that will make a huge difference in your quality of life. Even if it's 30 minutes of highway driving. It's the information era. Pull out your phone. There's trulia, zillow. Some places will let you do a lease to own deal. If you decide to stay, part of what you've paid for the first 12 months goes towards your down-payment or something along those lines.

Best of luck!

It depends on what time you leave and from where (mainly).

Leaving from Woodland Hills and attempting to reach Orange county to start a shift around 9AM would be suicide. Easily 4 hours (both ways combined) on the weekdays.
