Hello everyone,

This is my first thread in this forum. Please allow me to introduce myself:

I am currently a 2nd year Ross medical student who is under subject of dismissal. I have passed all of my classes without repeat , current GPA is : 3.1. However, I have failed to pass the COMP exam with a minimum of 70%. My highest attempt which was a also my first attempt was only 66%. My 4th - and most recent attempt was a 63%. I am not posting any excuses for my failure because it is totally my fault to not seek for help earlier.
I wrote an appeal letter to Ross committee and am waiting for their response.
However, at the same time, I am looking for transfer option. I had read multiple threads in this forum informed that dismissal students like me will have no chance to get into the other big Caribbean schools. So, I am applying for University of Medicine and Health science (UMHS) for their 5th semester at Maine. I am in the application process.

Honestly, I know transfer should be my last option; I have no other option. I know some of future responses I will receive is " go study for nursing, or do something else, quit med school..." I have considered that other options, however, my dream and my hope are still alive. I want to do whatever I can to go through this.

So I have couple questions for you:
1. What is my chance of having a 5th attempt to do COMP exam from Ross University?
2. Do you have any first, or secondary experience about UMHS? How is UMHS clinical rotations? and How are their students chances of obtaining residency in the USA?

Thank you for your help and have a nice day!

Very sorry to hear of your woes, but you're simply looking to do this:

No one here knows about UMHS and whatever they'll tell you is from a google search (ie something you can do yourself). Perhaps find UMHS students from facebook and shoot them a message?

As the poster above said, basically nobody has heard of that school so their track record is probably nonexistent. If they had anyone who had made it to residency, it would undoubtedly be advertised on their website.

You can continue to pursue your dream as long as you feel you need to and have funds. But keep in mind that simply getting your degree and getting a minimally passing step score is not going to ensure you get a spot in a residency. I’m not sure how high of a score you would need to get to have a residency give your app a look with a DISMISSAL from a Caribbean school on your record, but certainly much higher than your past performance indicates you are capable of.

There are SDN posts on UMHS in general. It seems their match rate is a little under 50%.

Since you are already being dismissed from Ross, I would recommend talking to the dean or academic advising to get an honest depiction of your future prospects.

Hey so I’m in a similar situation and wanted to know what ended up happening? was it difficult to get Ross to give a 4th and 5th attempt to pass Ross? I’m panicking right now and am hoping for any insight to the process
