COMP late interviewer

I lurked for a while 😀 , but since I'm interviewing out there next month (April 6th), and there seems to be alot of COMP'ers in this place, I thought I'd ask...

What are my chances if I'm interviewing this late? I had an interview last year out in Kirksville about this late as well.

My undergrad grades are a bit low due to my 'youthful indiscretions' (3.0), but my postbacc work is 3.54... MCAT is 30. 27 year old whose been working in research for the past 4 years, with 5 publications as a second author. Shadowed M.Ds in my dept at work, but only got to talk with DOs here.

I usually don't ask questions like "what are my chances", but at 27, I'm feeling a bit nervous about this interview.

i had an interview for 4/14 that i postponed til 5/1 and when i called to do that, i was told that yes, the class is still not full and actually, only a little over half full and that interviewing in may would not put me at a disadvantage.

my UG gpa is much lower than yours but my grad and post-bacc gpas and MCAT are higher. shadowed MDs and DOs and will sit in on an OMT at local DO school. possible 4 pubs by end of summer but none right now. why r u nervous b/c you're 27? DO schools traditionally have more friendly toward us non-trads and i'm > 30. just look up the interview feedback on SDN and that should help. they ask the traditional q's that all DO schools seem to ask but they have a couple of weird q's as well. but u should be an old pro since u've had interviews b4.

but i think we're all in the same boat now that we've made it to the interview stage. so good luck to us both.

I've been applying to various programs for the past three years, and the most I got was a waiting list for CU here in Denver... and that was low in the waiting list. I've called back to talk to schools that I've interviewed at, to get some feedback, and they all seem to say that my interview was okay and I seemed like a fine candidate. Only thing they tell me is that raising my MCAT grade would help.

Sigh... I guess I'm just a bit tired of being turned down every year.

wow, i thought that a 30 MCAT was supposed to be pretty good and i've seen quite a few ppl getting into MD programs with <30 even (but really high UG GPAs). and i think 30 is higher than average for DO schools. i don't understand either, your stats seem pretty good to me but then again i'm not on an adcom. maybe if u wanna go DO, you might try to shadow a DO and get a rec? have u done volunteering? u didn't say b4. maybe its the LORs or clinical experiences? sorry to hear all this. maybe COMP will be the one.

I've thought about shadowing a DO, but with my work schedule, it's pretty tough... you know how research schedule is.

I've got a ton of volunteer work during college and postbacc. Clinical experience is there, not a whole lot in college, but it's there. I've done EMT-Basic work as well during my postbacc college days, and served in ER for a few weeks.

You do see my dilemma, right? I'm not crazy for pondering my continuous rejection?

Relax, you're in at COMP! i'm surprised about the filled spots thus far for COMP, but i'm pretty sure you're in. If you can articulate your interest in Osteopathic medicine and why you like COMP you're pretty much in...esp. according to what you've been told from COMP admissions... you have good MCAT scores for COMP. Most COMP students have good undergrad GPAs, but yours is still acceptable given your 30 on the MCAT. Applicants get 2 weeks to decide if they want COMP, so some admitted spots will become open spots when people decide to head else where.

This is pure speculation, but I get the impression that COMP has several seats open late in the season. When I used to obsessively read over mdapplicants I noticed that several people seemed to get late (ie April) interviews and get acceptances right away. COMP seems pretty generous with deferrals, so maybe that opens up a few seats every year too. Anyway, I'd say unless there's some glaring flaw in your application (the stats you mentioned are well within COMP's realm) you will likely have a serious shot at an acceptance. Best of luck!

i had trouble getting a flight from the east coast - april was spring break season.
