What is a good site for comparing different residencies?

Although I'm interested in differences in life after residency, I'm particularly interested in the difference between life during training. That includes hours, pay, what typical days are like, call schedules, elective and research time.

Why, on my blog of course. Why would a prospective medical student need to look anywhere else?

Careful though, my humble and unassuming blog is not for the faint of heart and has already lead three pre-meds, and this documented, to commit suicide.

the FRIEDA website which is part of the AMA website has alot of the information that you are looking for. It has data for every residency programs there is. just take it with a grain of salt because it is simply the answers that the programs fill out on a questionaire.

Well, the pay is the same amongst the specialties in each program. That is, the surgery residents don't make any different salary than the FP residents do at the same hospital.

Between hospitals (ie, different programs) the salaries can be different, but it is generally not remotely even a significant difference so that you should make it a factor in your decision. You'll generally make more in larger cities with great cost of living expenses, but again...this does not vary btwn specialties.

The rest of the information can be had through FREIDA (ie, elective and research time as well as hours) but like the hours worked, FREIDA's info can be wildly off base. Do not expect significant amount of research or elective time in any specialty unless you choose to take a couple of years in the lab.

I found this site pretty helpful regarding what your asking. The truth in these matters is allways hard to get at so you must approach with caution and a grain of salt when reading and every program is different. Good luck.
