Competitive Shadowing hours

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Enough to know for yourself if you think you would hate dentistry, I'm not attempting to chastise you, there are plenty of people that end up in year 3 or 4 and absolutely wish they had chosen a different career path. I would suggest shadowing as much as you can for your own benefit. And the ADEA guide will let you know each school's minimum.

Minimum required/recommend +/- 1.

Do we have to shadow a specialty? It's hard enough to shadow a GP as it is.
Dude you don't have to do anything, this is simply about being more competitive. Doing so shows you have a better idea of what the dental field entails. The majority of applicants probably only shadowed their dentist but given that you know this now why not do yourself the favor send a few more emails/make a few more phone calls. It doesn't have to be 40+ hours at the perio/endo/oms office, just being there for a day is probably good enough.

This is just what I remember an admissions director saying at a predent meeting a few years back. You have a while before you apply my guy so don't sweat it and try to fit it in over winter break or something.

100+ at a GP is a good and competitive goal
