Competitive year?

Any thoughts? Have heard from folks that this prelim app year is especially bad--one program in NYC told me they had 1000 apps for 12 spots.

Another Boston program told a friend they had 600 apps for their prelim spots, and that this year's group is extraordinarily competitive.

I guess more people want to specialize?

I never heard that. Usually there are plenty more prelim spots. Also most programs actually offer prelim positions in their institutions and I would def. recommend taking them up on their offer.

the 1000 apps for 12 spots was a transitional year.....

had tried to coordinate ty/prelim spots with my specialty but the latter isn't showing me love.
