Dear Dr. X: As a Pathologist, we know that you have your ear to the ground and that your professional network is always increasing. Do you at times hear of any short or long term pathology opportunities that you think we may not be aware of? We would like to invite you to partner with our pathology team at CompHealth and provide us with your referrals. By doing so, we will pay you a $500 referral bonus.

Here is how this referral program works: You refer to us any possible pathology opportunities that you have heard of. We will do the rest. If your referral is one that we are not currently working on, we will pay you the bonus if we are able to provide a staffing solution there. This way the coverage need gets filled, one of our great pathologists gets placed, and you get rewarded for your help.

We look forward to working with you and rewarding you as our network partner.

Sincerely,

CompHealth’s Pathology Team

This should be forwarded to the leaders of Pathology. This is truly sad. Who's THE person this should be sent to? Silva?

I don't think whoever the rotating USCAP president is really matters much in terms of how many resident training spots there are. What matters is the ACGME and how many spots they approve. I have no idea where they get their recommendations, but I presume the Am Board of Pathology would have some input.

I agree - I don't think USCAP has much influence over residency training numbers. Their mission is more education and global pathologist interaction.

Granted, but nobody in Path attempts to make a move (or even suggest change or hell even get up off their chair) until someone with a title (however meaningless it may be) makes a statement. Lets face it the Path community in whole is a bunch of followers, bunch of talk but no action. Thats why this board is full of people complaining and not doing. What the Path community needs is some kind of ruthless dictator to tell the masses of followers how to try to solve the F*&ked up situation we are all in. At least we have to start somewhere or find something else to do with our careers.

Good point. Nobody has really discussed options to resolve the situation, much less done anything. Granted what options are there for path residents; stay in path and deal, or leave.

I think contacting the ACGME would be a good first step. However, we are not an organization or group that could formally present facts.
