Complement immune system

Today is the first time I've seen the phrase "compliment immune system." What exactly do we need to know about it for the MCAT. After looking it up, I basically found out that it allows for communication between the innate and adaptive branches of the immune system. How does it do that, and is it important for the MCAT?

complement system are 20 blood proteins just know that they're part of innate immunity i.e nonspecific immunity; that's pretty much all you should know

I would imagine it would be more then enough to know that complement is part of the innate immune system. It can mark that pathogen for destruction by other members of the immune system or in some cases kills it directly (FYI complement can do this by punching holes in the membrane by forming a membrane attack complex)
