Hello SDN,

So my school's premed committee doesn't send out their letter until early august. I plan to have all other components of my app in before then. Will I still be considered "early" if my app is complete in Aug?

My follow-up question is that if my app won't be complete until Aug anyway, is there cause to quickly complete secondary apps? Will any schools review my file before the letters arrive?

Thanks for your help,

Schools will generally wait for your file to be complete before reviewing. However, this shouldn't stop you from completing secondaries. Your letter will be the icing on the cake. Should put you in line for interviews in late sept. early october.

I've had a school send me an interview request, before my letters were sent, yes. So some schools start reviewing before the letters get there. So, in my opinion, it would behoove you to complete your secondaries in a expedient (but still careful) manner.

I was in your exact position when I applied last year. I would recommend getting everything complete while you're waiting for your letter. Depending on how many schools you're applying to, secondaries could take a significant amount of time. Since you're probably not doing anything right now anyway, waiting just for the sake of waiting doesn't make much sense.

I started receiving interview invites relatively quickly after being complete: I think I received one in the week following, but most came within 2-3 weeks after. Schools won't review your app before it's complete, but if you have everything ready to go it'll be put in the queue for review once your letter is received.

I was in your position too.. Submit everything else and you'll still be early. My letter went in August 10th-15th I think, and my first interview was ~ September 8th.

sorry to bump this thread after so long, but on a similar note do schools care that much about the "2 week" rule about secondary submission? Especially in my case where it wouldn't matter even if I took a month to submit a secondary since it would be before my letter arrives anyway?

No, this is just a SDN guideline. I submitted my Pritzker secondary almost a month after receiving it and was still accepted.

Get them in as fast as you can, but DON'T sacrifice quality just to get them in quicker.

I'm sure you hear this all the time NickNaylor but you are a god

I had a random question and I figured it would be better to ask it here than start a new thread. So I'm pre writing all my secondaries, and just submitted AMCAS. I only added one school, so that I was able to submit. I plan on adding another 20 or so, but here's my question. Does it make sense to add all the schools now, get the secondaries right away, and send them back fast? Or would it make more sense to wait a week or 2 and add the schools then? My concern is that I don't want them to see my secondaries without my primary because I feel like a lot of my essays wouldn't make any sense. If I submit right away, my secondary will be in to them for almost a month. I dunno the details of the process, so I'm confused. Thanks for the help with this strange question lol.

I think you're way overthinking it. I don't think any schools will look at your file before the primary is received. I would add the schools now and just get the secondaries in, but I doubt it matters one way or another.

Haha thanks for the help. Didn't think that question deserved a whole thread...
