Thanks for the replies, yes I did go over the threads but couldnt find if UCSF/USC/UCSD was ok that the pre-reqs came from a CC....

There are also MANY threads about this topic as well if you would have searched UCSF, USC or UCSD. USC does NOT accept pre-reqs from CC's, as stated in those threads.

I don't think any pharmacy schools accept CC credits..Do they? ... Most of the schools I reviewed usually specify ''from an accredited 4 year university"

Incorrect. Some do. This is why it's best to ask these questions directly of the schools one is interested in.

Link, please.

California seems to be the odd man out on this one. As far as I know, everywhere else CC is fine. California, not so much.

70% of my pre-pharm coursework was done at a CC and the other 30% at a University. I didn't have any problems getting into a CA pharm school.

Good to know. Would you say a fair amount of your classmates did the same thing?

I know of a couple that did some coursework at a CC but not sure the %age. Plus, the majority will have their BS degrees by August. So far only 2 of us (that I know of) will not have an undergrad degree by August.

So Im about to complete my first year of CC... Im trying to transfer to UCLA/CAL/USC as a junior...

I will be done with 1 yr Calc, 1.5 yr Bio, 1 yr Gen Chem, 1 yr OChem by next yr...

since I need those pre-reqs to get into UCLA/CAL/USC for bio major as undergrad...

Will pharmacy schools look down that Im completing a lot of the pre-reqs at CC?
Im trying to go to UCSF, USC, UCSD...

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I completed two years of community college, received my AA and then transferred to UF and am about to graduate with my Bachelor's. I have not had any trouble getting into pharm schools here in FL. I think where the issue may come up is if they see you are originally enrolled in a 4yr university and then you are taking pre-reqs at the CC for the easier levels. Other than that you should be good. Also, my advisors have always told me to take as many pre-reqs as possible when you transfer to the 4 yr univ (and the hardest ones). So i took calc, bio 1&2 and gen chem 1&2 at CC but then completed physics, orgo, anatomy, biochem ect at UF. If they see you do well in the more challenging ones at the 4 yr level, then you will be fine!

Good luck :luck:

California schools, save for USC which has a blatant prejudice against CC units, are fine with CCs. The glitch comes in needing a BA/BS prior to matriculation, but you can certainly do coursework at CCs like I did (And Delano).

Just found out for USC its ok, just not recommended. Is this true or am I reading it wrong?

http://pharmacyschool.usc.edu/programs/pharmd/pharmdprogram/admission/requirements/

"These requirements may be completed at any accredited two-year and four-year college or university. The School recommends that most of your pre-pharmacy required courses be taken at four-year institutions. Pre-pharmacy courses taken from vocational or technical schools are not accepted."

But if I end up transferring to USC from a CC for undergrad, I should be good right? And I can get TAP as well... Any TAPs in here?

Sure, it's "OK." They're just prejudiced against the CC credits (by recommending something, you're demonstrating prejudice of some kind) opposed to every other school that doesn't have such a clause.

You don't transfer to pharmacy school. You apply, interview and hopefully get accepted and then matriculate there. It's not like you fill out a transfer agreement and walk through the doors... Especially if TAP means Transfer Admission Program or something, there's no way to go from 2 years of CC to a pharmacy school through a guaranteed transfer program. USC undergraduate, perhaps... but not the pharmacy school.

After re-reading the OP I think you mean transferring to the undergrad - Yeah you'll be fine if you secure a BA/BS from a school and then apply.
