My senior year of high school I took dual credit courses. The first semster I did relatively well and got A's and B's. My second semester however, I had WF's in all my classes due to personal reasons. Consequently I did not graduate high school. This was all about 6 years ago btw. I got my GED several months ago and got a nearly perfect score ( I know this doesn't say much, but still) Now, I am a freshman in college and so far am making high A's in all my classes. My understanding is that when it comes time to apply that I HAVE to list the courses I took even though they were in high school and even though I never finished high school, I still have to list them. Is that correct? Assuming I do well in college, how badly will my performance in HS hurt me?

You're correct that you will have to list them if you got college credit. However, you still have four years to raise your GPA from that bad semester. Med schools will see your GPA per year, so if you do very well in college they will see the "upward trend". You can also address an issue like this in your personal statement, since it definitely sounds like a big challenge you had to overcome. In short, a bad semester very early on will definitely not ruin your chances. Just be sure you keep up your grades now!

Did you ever ask that institution if you could petition to have the WFs changed to Ws. If you have sufficient/appropriate documentation, this might still be possible. And it would look better. Doesn't the WF mean you stopped going to class without officially notifying the college you would no longer be attending?

Yes, I stopped going without officially notifying them. Unfortunately, I don't have any documentation that would explain why I suddenly stopped going.

It couldn't hurt to ask. Perhaps there is an adult authority figure in your life who would back you up with a letter of some sort. The worst the school can do is say no.

when you put your transcript into AMCAS the medical schools can (and will) see all of the classes you have taken and how you have done on them. On the other hand, prove to them that you can do better by just doing well in the classes you are in now. Honestly, don't stress too much about things you cant control 🙂

what happens if you don't list them?

Do you have to list them if you don't use them for credit (i.e: taking spanish in CC to fulfill requirements, then taking German in college instead?)

You must report any college class ever taken, regardless of whether the credits were applied toward graduation in any degree. Even if you a) live in Texas, b) participate in Fresh Start and have all college grades greater than 10 years old erased, you must disclose those grades from 10+ years ago if you apply to any med schools outside of Texas.

You can always lie, but this is a very bad idea.
