So I'm an 18 year old in College. I have my associates degree from Bard College so I'm kind of ahead of the game. I graduated from high school in June 2012 with both my associates and my high school degree. If no one is familiar with this, it's an early college high school in NYC that gives this opportunity (Bard High School Early College) In college I have a junior standing. Anyway, it's my first semester and I took chemistry and biology and happened to get a C or C- (not sure yet) and hopefully a C- in biology. This semester was the toughest semester I have ever encountered. My grades really don't reflect the kind of person I am. Learning to study in a dorm life setting was really tough. Well, one thing is for sure, I'll be getting MUCH higher grades every semester here on out. I'm really concerned about applying to medical school though. It's been my dream ever since I can remember and I hope this doesn't mess up my chances of getting in anywhere. I will be graduating in May of 2015 so I wont have as much time to prepare for the MCATS as traditional freshman would and everything seems rushed. If I graduate and take a year off and then apply with the class of 2016 instead of 2015, I think I wont do as well. What are your opinions? Also, money is a huge situation for me. If i graduate early that's saving my parents and myself a whole lot of money and we barely have. Are my chances diminished because I miserably failed my science courses? Should I apply with the class of 2016 or 2015? Any help is appreciated! 🙂

Well, I wont have the same help I will have if I'm in college because I would have graduated by then and doing everything alone seems like the perfect way to mess up.

I think you're giving premed advisors too much credit. The norm is trending towards non-trad seems like these days. The average age of matriculants at my state school is like 26.

I guess you're right. But do you think I actually have a shot of getting in? my major is psychology and with that hopefully they can see that I am a very well rounded person

um, no. you will have to do much more than choose a notoriously easy major to show that you are a well-rounded person.

just keep working hard and see how your resume looks before you want to apply. If you haven't gotten it together in time, you will need to wait a year. get it together ASAP, and you can apply whenever you want.
