Compound Formulas - Need to Memorize?

Hey guys, so i noticed in the Destroyer GC section, compounds are often referred to w/o their molecular formula. On the real DAT, will the molecular formula be given for a problem such as Ksp when you have to calculate the disassociation factor by knowing the molecular formula?

I have not taken the DAT yet but it seems reasonable for them to be able to ask us questions where we must use gen chem naming rules for ionic and molecular compounds to get to the molecular formula. Ie,

carbontetrafluoride - CF4

or

copper (II) sulfate - CuSO4

EDIT: I remember Chad spending time on the polyatomic ions and diatomic molecules (NHFOICB). But yes, it will be good to hear from someone who has taken the DAT.

Yappy thanks for the input but I would need someone who took the DAT to respond, while it is reasonable I did not find this to be part of Chad's review (while I may have missed something.) I just need to clarify with a past DAT taker. so bump for anyone else.

havnt taken test but from destroyer know these and their charges

sulfate vs sulfite

chloride v chlorate v chlorite

nitrate vs nitrous

phosphate

carbonate

wall, thanks this is exactly what I was doing for the GChem section. how bout some stuff in OChem like Pyrrole? Are you going to memorize those as well

pyrol and furran ive memorzed (p for pent =5 and you pee nitrogen compouds out and furan , f for 5, and you need O2 for fire) and other than that memorizing all the common names for things like methylbenzene= toulene and phenol and yadda but nothing too crazy.my guess is know formaldehyde, acetone, basically acetal is a single carbon-ish kinda deal= acetylide, acetal aldehyde, acetylene.

i guess due to the lack of response from anyone who has taken it, I would say know them?!?!

or wait maybe dont waste your time knowing them

or maybe they arent saying anything because they want us to waste our time knowing them

but maybe you need to know them for some problems and not for others???

this is a tough question lol
