Anyone know where I can purchase materials and what kind of materials are best for compounding topical gels, specifically want to compound Clindamycin gel. (Yes I know it's available commercially, but since now I'm 23 and no longer covered with my parents insurance, I'd rather just make the stuff myself and get compounding practice at the same time.)

Don't you know you have to compound stuff at a pharmacy? Plus its rx only.
It's illegal to compound products that are already commercially available.
You take too many shortcuts in life, it's going to bite you one day.

👍 another awesome unethical/illegal sparda post

Yeah, but I was looking to get a prescription from my doctor for clindamycin capsules, grind up the powder and mix it with a good vehicle.

How does this help the health insurance situation? Clindamycin capsules aren't free, you know.

Yeah but I'd think that the cost of the clindamycin caps + vehicle would be cheaper for me to make by myself at home rather than having to buy a 60 gram tube for $60.
Pricing (lexi-comp)
Gel (Clindamycin Phosphate)
1% (30): $17.99
if you can't afford that then I doubt you can get the compounding supplies for less
Or just buy it online since legality is not an issue

Question: Does it even matter to you that this is illegal?

Costs $60 at CVS. I guess I could compound it to a different concentration.

It's still be illegal unless you had an rx for the compound.

Well I could easily get one of those. Or another option would be to have him switch me over to Evoclin and just get some coupons.

sounds like a winner, this makes a lot more sense.

We have a formula for Calcium Gluconate Gel in 2 steps (1) Levigate the powder with distilled water to make a paste (2) Work paste into Surgilube or KY Jelly
I imagine Clindamycin Gel may be of something similar. Try calling a local compounding pharmacy and see if they have a formula for it on file, that way you also get stability info.
Good luck!
I'm officially creating the "SDN Sparda Drinking Game". Feel free to play along as you browse SDN (with something non-alcoholic if you're at work or school), the rules are very simple.
1.) Everytime Sparda talks about doing something against the law or CVS policy, take a drink.
2.) Everytime someone tells Sparda that something is against the law or CVS policy, take a drink.
3.) Everytime Sparda mentions hookah, take a drink.
4.) Everytime Doctor M or Old Timer tell Sparda he's an idiot, take a drink.
5.) Everytime Sparda posts a gif in a thread, take a drink.
6.) Everytime Sparda accidentally asks a diabetic patient if they're looking for Plan B, take two drinks.

We need a category for when he says something bizarre. Like when he mentions how he loves Desert Eagle 50cals.

Are you sure you aren't covered by your parent's insurance? The new rules are set and almost everyone your age is covered.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/11/h...l?scp=4&sq=chidren health insurance 26&st=cseThe White House issued rules on Monday allowing young adults to remain covered by their parents health insurance policies up to age 26. The promise of such coverage has attracted great interest. Employers and insurers say they have been flooded with inquiries.
Under the rules, an employer-sponsored health plan or a company selling individual insurance policies must offer coverage to subscribers children up to the age of 26, regardless of whether a child lives with his or her parents, attends college, is a dependent for income-tax purposes or receives financial support from the parents.
Coverage is to be available to married and unmarried children alike.
Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of health and human services, estimated that 1.2 million people would gain coverage because of the new requirement.
The health department estimated that the average cost to cover each new enrollee would be $3,380 in 2011, $3,500 in 2012 and $3,690 in 2013.
The cost will be borne by all families with employer-sponsored insurance, with family premiums expected to rise by about 1 percent, the government said.
The rules generally take effect for insurance plan-years that begin on or after Sept. 23 this year.
However, the rules allow an exception for employer-sponsored health plans that were in existence on March 23, when President Obama signed the health care bill. In general, such health plans can exclude adult children of workers until 2014 if the children have access to insurance through another employer-sponsored health plan. That might occur, for example, if a 24-year-old child is working for a business that offers health benefits to employees.
Many insurance companies have voluntarily agreed to provide dependent coverage immediately, without waiting for the requirement to take effect in September 2010 or in January 2011, when many companies renew their coverage.
I guess you are out of luck if your employer gives you insurance but otherwise you should be covered by your parent's plan.

Not according to my parents insurance. They say that the new law doesn't take hold for a while.

Yup.
I was told the new coverage is supposed to start 6 months after the bill was signed... so hold out for October. Unfortunately, I will only be 25 for a few more months after that so it's not worth it to reap the benefits 🙁Not according to my parents insurance. If I had to start paying for his meds, I'd move out of the state. Granted, I'm doing that in a year already, but I'd make it happen sooner.

Damn Obamacare prevents us from going without insurance for more then 63 days. What options are there? I'm in the same boat. I turn 25 next week and I also loose my insurance. Granted the only things that could possibly go wrong with me are injury or cancer but ya never know.
But on the bright side I am looking forward to having cheaper car insurance.

I'd have no problem contributing to your healthcare bills...for some reason, I don't think you throw your life and ethics to the wind as easily as Sparda does.
So I was googling how to compound some other gel (this time for a hospital patient) and this topic was like on the top 10 results.
