I read on MSN there is a new method. It Involves a 2 liter bottle some PSE and shake. Out pops a few hits of meth.
haha, seriously! if i wanted to know how to make meth, i'd go to google, not SDN. my pharmacy is getting really into compounding and it took me a long time to figure out one compound that we had never done.
If you're doing a lot of compounding, look into joining PCCA. They have almost every resource you'll ever need.

Yup, you don't even need that much PSE anymore. But still as dangerous as ever because if you shake it too much, or if the bottle is on too tight, BOOM!
Here is a good general text for pharm students re: compounding.
To get more practical knowledge I'd suggest looking up compounding pharmacists in your area and ask about volunteering there. That way you can get a good idea of what resources really work in a pharmacy setting. I did that with a good compounding pharmacist my P1 year (I put in 100 hours btw) and still think it was one of my best experiences. He was a PCCA member and had a good business model, plus his employees were all pretty easy going and good to work with. Experience, for me at least, always ends up teaching me more than studying theory, so I'd start with making contacts first.

+1 for that, I took a compounding elective and this book was great! PCCA has their own courses too (as well as Medisca)

Doc, PCCA makes a good product called lipoderm pretty stable among a range of pH's and holds up well to high salt concentrations. Its supposed to aid in increaseing drug absorption, but it makes a nice product.

Alright all you smart pharmacists. Pain doc here. I got a question about compounding. If i want to make a clonidine/gabapentin/ketamine topical cream for my patients, what kind of base do I use? Any thoughts out there
Gabapentin topically? Please explain.

Charged molecules with a negative logD (7.4) have amazing skin permeability

True dat, dirty meth. There's some good legal stims out now though, 1,3-dimethylpentylamine is a great OTC especially mixed with caffeine, 8 straight hours of studying no problem 🙂
