About a year ago, I ran across a link in a SDN post that took me to this awesome website that listed all ped surg fellowship programs and had some nifty info to go with that. I can't find it now.

I am interested in finding out what residency programs the current ped surgery (and recent ped surg) fellows came from to help assess each of my partner's potential residency programs in terms of the likelihood that she'll get her desired fellowship upon completion of the GS program.

Any help would be mucho appreciated.

According to my vascular surgery attending just yesterday, there are relatively few peds fellowship spots (less than the demand for such surgeons would indicate) and it's very competitive. It definitely didn't sound like something to count on. Sorry this isn't what you wanted to hear, but take it for what it's worth - anyone's free to contradict or deny.

yeah, i've got info on the total number of accredited peds surg fellowship programs in the country, as does she, but she is graduating from duke and definitely has distinguished herself in a number of unique ways that show what a kick-ass student she is...if she continues on her course, she should prove to be as kick-ass throughout her surgery residency, so i have faith that she will match into whatever fellowship she chooses within a year or so of completing her GS residency.

my interest is more in knowing which programs have seen surgery residents go on to peds surg fellowships, or, better, any difficult-to-get-into fellowships. e.g., X% of U-M's GS residents matched into their fellowships, whereas Y% of Brigham and Women's residents matched into their chosen fellowships. With that kind of data, our match decision (hers mostly, but i'm a part of the process as well) will be a little better-informed, I would think.

Thanks for your input, and I hope to read more info here.

if she's looking at places like Michigan and the Brigham, I'd venture to guess that she doesn't have much to worry about.

while peds surg is a very competitive match, coming from any top g-surg program would give her the best opportunity. I wouldn't recommend comparing such x%, y%, as peds surg is such a small field that you couldn't reliably compare such #'s.

I dont think peds surg is something that anyone can count on, considering the sheer number of spots. She had better like Gen Surg or have an eye on a backup specialty, because you never know.
