What kind of computer is safe to get for dental school? Is it safe to get a Mac on Black Friday or should I wait until I know where I am going to dental school because some schools have certain restriction.
wait, because some schools have a certain laptop or iPad that they want you to use and it is included in supplies/fees
Like what was stated above, I would wait. There are a good bit of schools that include a laptop or tablet in their fees.

Do programs let you opt out of those fees if you want to bring in your own device (assuming it fits the necessary standard)?

Nope, I know some schools have you buy a computer through them no matter what.Do programs let you opt out of those fees if you want to bring in your own device (assuming it fits the necessary standard)?

Assume that you will be forced to buy their laptop to ensure uniformity in specs, repair, software, and HIPAA compliance (software enforced). If you're going to buy a laptop anyway, just assume it will be for fun and not schoolwork. In that case, think about what "fun" stuff you're going to do on that laptop and go from there. Fun stuff can include watching movies, gaming, web browsing, etc... If they ever make you buy a laptop, always assume you're borrowing the laptop from them and it's not yours. Don't put anything private or contraband on those laptops. Always good to have a separate computer for personal and professional work.
