Okay, so I am starting to look at buying my computer for d-school, and wanted to know the procedure for getting reimbursed for things like this because I am doing the Navy HPSP. While I was reading the handbook it said that they would NOT reimburse for the pruchase of a computer, but will reimburse for the rental or lease of the computer. I could not believe that since the computer at ASDOH is a requirement. I called NMETC in Maryland and asked them about it, and they said no, they won't reimburse you for the purchase! So I am wondering what others with the HPSP have done- did you just rent the computer, or did you suck it up and just buy it yourself? Are there any loopholes anyone has found? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I am in the Air Force HPSP and people have told me that if you get a letter from your Dean or department head stating that it is a requirement for your degree then they will reimburse you. Good luck!

When I had to get my computer for Dental School (back in 2003) the Army would not reimburese me for it, and I had a letter written by the dean of academic affairs detailing how I would not be allowed into the clinical aspect of my training without it. The Army said...Tough (or something like it). I had to suck it up and purchase it on my own. Things may have changed though.

I asked about the computer reimbursement during Air Force COT last summer. Apparently the military has a lot of security and legal issues with computers. The computer would technically have to become property of the U.S. Government - if the Gov. buys a computer, they have to have strict control over it and what is on it. Better to put some stipend money towards it than to bug them - you won't get very far when it comes to tech security.

I haven't heard of anyone yet that hasn't had to "Suck it up," when it comes to buying the school-required computer.
