OK, so it's great that there are so many online resources for studying (my school has so many different websites I can't keep track of them!), but does anyone else have trouble when professors put essential study material online? I get everything I can on print-outs or from books...but there is a lot more I would print out if I had the money for stacks of paper (that I'd never use more than once) or the ability (some pictures, etc. won't print well).

I'm definitely a fan of the computer, but not of staring at the screen for hours (or even half-hours!) trying to study. Maybe this is a reason I don't study very much! 😛 I may be alone in this, but after only a little computer time, my eyes start burning and my head aching from looking at the screen...I think I've even had a migraine or two triggered by that!

OK, enough whining from me! Does anyone have an idea of how to deal with this? I guess I could just suck it up and print out hundreds of pages (I don't have my own printer, so that's one reason it would cost a lot)...but I'd feel bad wasting all that paper too, since I'd only use the lecture notes, etc. once to take notes from.

My burning eyes thank you! 😛

Dont they have special computer screens and glasses to reduce glare? While it doesn't really help the computer issue it does makeit easier on the eyes.

I prefer to have what I need in paper so I can mark on it. So I understand. One of my classes is almost all online and its a pain to have to print so much stuff out.

do they give you a printing quota as they have in my school? apparently, 100 pages is enough 👎

no but you do have to pay for each page... so I print at home.

I have to have a hard copy to get anything done. I got the printer, I got the high-speed Internet, I bought recycled paper, and I print everything.

We also have to pay for all printing on campus, so I do it at home. On average I download 40 MB of files every day for notes etc., so the high-speed is essential. (I could download those on campus using their internet connection, but it's easier to do at home)

Total cost - you could get a printer for a hundred bucks or so
paper is $5/ream, and I go through a ream about every 4 weeks
internet is $40/month

also, I get friends to "harvest" paper for me from the recycle bins where they work - this is a great source
