Concealed Neuroanatomy in Michelangelo's Separation of Light From Darkness in the Sistine Chapel
This article suggests that Michelangelo surrounded God with a shroud representing the brain to suggest that God was endowing Adam not only with life, but also with intelligence. I have been lucky to see the Sistine Chapel in the flesh, definitely makes my own top ten of things to see before one starts circling the plug hole. This is the best article on the theory I have ever read so in case you have never heard of the theory .

Michelangelo personal interest in the kidney, apparently he suffered from nephrolithiasis, leading to their portrayal is an interesting addition. New to me anyway .
