I think that it's safer to actually check the IA box, explain as you did here, and ask the Dean for a LOR explaining that it really wasn't an official sanction and that you've been a good boy/girl ever since. These types of transgressions are not treated very seriously, at least by my Adcom.Hi Goro, thank you very much for your reply. In this case, I guess it's fine to not disclose this since it's not an official IA? I did ask the Dean if he would classify this as an IA but he said he didn't know since there's no universal definition of IA, he did say it was an infraction though.

I would say yes. It is an action taken at a level higher than a class/professor.@gonnif
Probation itself counts as an IA right? Even if it's simply because the student fails their classes.
