Hi all,

I am practicing for potential interviews, and am growing increasingly concerned at the amount that I am blinking while I speak. I read that blinking can be a sign of nervousness, and currently I am blinking about once every 6 seconds (10 times per minute). I have been practicing reducing this number to once every 12 seconds (5 times per minute), and can do this successfully in the mirror but not when I am answering interview questions.

Has anyone ever had similar issues, and is there anything I can do to reduce blinking? I am considering eye drops but am hoping for natural solutions if possible so I do not appear too nervous. AdComs, is excessive blinking (~10 times per minute) a red flag in an applicant?

Thanks.

In all seriousness, the more you think about crap like this, the more you will self-sabotage. Just be yourself.

Blinking is much better than the unblinking death stare of a serial killer or trained assassin .... Just saying.

The more you focus on this the more likely you are to look like an absolute weirdo during your interview. If you do the wide eyed staring contest try not to blink face during your interview it'll definitely be worth the lulz in the post interview debrief by whoever is talking about you. It would be like trying to control your breathing rate. You will self sabotage. I've never ever noticed someones blinking frequency unless they get something stuck in their eye and go all super blinky.

Insert toothpicks to keep your eyes open for the entirety of the interview. Insertion can be painful and your eyes will be Sahara-Desert-dry, but it will be worth it.

Honestly, you can’t control this and the more you try, the worse it will get. I think I’d expose myself to my fear by practicing the interview and intentionally blinking too much until it stopped bothering me.

Your blink rate is much better than mine (my dry eyes drive me crazy). Use some eye drops to help you feel better. I like Refresh Optive Advanced drops. But just breath and relax as best you can. You’ll do great. Good luck!

Wear shades to your interview? I suggest cool designer shades...

Take your contact lens off so you have no clue what is happening on other end. 🤣

Any of you notice that the OP has yet to be heard from since the OP???

I am here, just taking in the responses. Evidently I have been taking this whole blinking thing a bit too seriously, as you guys have pointed that out to me in multiple different ways. For what it's worth I'm down to 8 blinks per minute, and while I don't think this will necessarily make or break my interview, I am hoping to still work to get it down
