Hey everyone,

What are some concerns or considerations I should keep in mind if I anticipate changing my current OOS status in medical school to instate. Formerly from CA now doing medical school in MI.

I have parents that live in CA and have lived in CA my entire life. Does this make it harder for me to obtain residency in CA if I change my state residency from CA to MI?

Any other considerations to keep in mind?

Your only consideration should be how fast you can get MI in-state tuition.

My school (and I think most others) makes the determination At the beginning of M1 year and doesn't change after that. I'd double check this.

Dunno about residency. I'd be surprised if it matters as long as you are a California resident before applying to residency but I don't actually know.

This. I've never lived in Michigan, but to be a resident for tuition purposes, many states make you prove you've moved there for a reason other than your education (requiring you to move there first and have a job) and do things that indicate you'll be there a while (register a vehicle, change your driver's license, etc). If you move there as a first year, I doubt you'll be a resident for tuition purposes at any point as a medical student.
