Fighterdoc:

I was Navy, so never been to Spang. Flew into Ramstein once, Blue Bark mission for an F-18 guy.

Unless a place has "CV- " or "NAS" in front of it, or "& Grill" or "& Massage" after it, I probably missed it!!

LOL, Moms Gasthaus/Grill in the village of Spang-Dahlem. I lived around the corner.

Is Spang your callsign (mine was Fidel)? How'd you get it?

Spang is a high school nickname that originated as "El Spaniard the Cat Killer" (long story) and morphed into Spang.

I happen to have a first and middle name that begin with "J" so everyone called me "JJ" and that was painted on the plane. I had a short-lived call sign "Ant-boy" that alluded to my ability to "lift" objects (in this case a young lady encountered VERY late in the evening) weighing several times my own body weight. It's in one picture I have stading next to my aircraft!

You asked,

Spang

Spang, that is a great call sign/nickname. I had to drop some karma on you for that story

You'll love this even more; I was with a crew from Seal Team 8 when that happened!

Another pilot who was with us that night got pulled from the head in the bar and had his underwear cut off of him in, front of an amazed crowd of civilians!

PS: This has nothing whatsoever to do with the original topic of this thread, but once you get us old guys going, we don't know when to stop.

Ant boy,
Dropped some Karma on you myself for that one. That and the SEAL team tale are typical, listen up people, it's these things that make us love the miltary depsite all of the BS. Divers are always a blast to party with (SEALS included in that bunch), I haven't lifted too many with the Aviators, but the tales are legendary from my FS buddies. Lift on, my friends. 😀

Ah, the good old days - happy hour at the stag bar, drinking games (dead bug, anyone?), letting the squids "sucker" us into car-quals in Sicily, what fun!

The best though was from an early scene in "The Great Santini". Cream of mushroom soup - priceless! I never saw it done, myself but I wouldn't put anything past the Marines.

DECEASED INSECT would have been more appropriate!!!! Now I'm writing this on my laptop, on my back, w/ my feet in the air! 👍
