Conclusion/Closure of a university funded research project

I work on an East Coast university funded research project with private donors.
I wanted to know what happens at the end of the project ? The funding is uptil September. Does my mentor have to submit a conclusion / outcome report to the funders ?

Does he have to...so to speak... show the funders what they were able to achieve with the grant funds ?

It's specific to each particular grant and was set out at the beginning. But in general, some sort of progress report will be required.
