I got a conditional offer of place at Massey University, but I'm not completely sure what that means.. I'm trying to not get my hopes up too high lol. Any thoughts?

I'm 70% sure it means they will offer you a place in the class contingent on you successfully completing some remaining requirements. Such as getting above a C in remaining coursework or some such.

No idea about Massey in particular, but it sounds like they have accepted you provided you meet certain requirements. Passing any remaining classes maybe? Did they say anything else?

I just had to resend a form, and then at the bottom of the form it said admission into this program is subject to academic approval by the Colleges of Science (which I read as: we haven't done this yet, leading me to think that my marks and such haven't really been looked at yet).

But then one of the last things they write is: we look forward to finalizing your admission to the university..

I am CONFUSED.. maybe I'm just reading too much into it?

Thanks 🙂

Still sounds like they are accepting you to me!

My wife got an acceptance into Princeton PhD program from her department that said something similar that it was subject to approval by the whatever <graduate college of arts and sciences or something, I don't remember exactly>. It was just really a rubber stamp. They just review to make sure the adcom hasn't let in an axe murderer, or someone who hasn't been to college, or doesn't meet fairly meet the stated criteria.

IF it is the same deal, then you are in subject to the rubber stamp. No harm in shooting them an e-mail and double checking though.

In medical school and most other professional schools, it means they are waiting on your background check

Yeah I got the same thing and am similarly confused. When I got into grad school I had a similar letter but I couldn't get a good read on this letter and don't want to get my hopes up. I called them and they said I would have a final answer by mid-December.

Hmmm I feel like every time I read it I get a different vibe. Did you get into group 2?

First of, congrats! 🙂 I know Massey sends out more offers than they have seats in the class and they fill them on a first come first serve basis of when you reply to their offer of admission so it might be conditional based on that too

Congrats ellsworth and skittle! I'm in the same boat, too! I did the same thing--I was really confused by the Conditional Offer of Place and how it was worded. They were waiting for my GRE scores (ugh I hate ETS) and transcript for the classes I'm taking this fall, which I told them wouldn't be available until January. I hope that means that I'm still in the running?

I received the same letter last year. I called and asked because I was so confused. It basically means they are waiting on any remaining parts of your application (i.e. your GRE scores) and then making sure the College of Science doesn't have any issue with your application (very unlikely if the vet school wants you). Unless they find something horrible in your app (again, not likely), you're pretty much set. I didn't think my GRE was that great but it didn't seem to make any difference to them. If you're still concerned, call them on Skype and check!
Based off of my experience last year, you have been accepted. If you want your spot, turn everything in and grab it quickly! 🙂
