I seem to keep finding out about conferences only two weeks to a month before they happen. I need more time than that to arrange transportation/flights/petsitters/etc.!

How does one find out about them well ahead of time? Is there a list somewhere of conferences that regularly occur, or are scheduled for this year? Is it all word-of-mouth? Do you just have to remember which occur when and where and plan for the following year? I want to get in the loop! 🙂

What sort of conferences are you referring to? Vet-med related ones? If so, I can't help. But the conferences I'm presenting posters at this semester (undergrad bio major) were identified by my research advisor for me.

basically you are on your own to figure these things out. if its a field your interested in, just google stuff and you can find information. or you can go to the specific organization websites. i am interested in exotics/aquatics, so you can go to IAAAM website and they are having a conference in May in Las Vegas this year. So you kind of just have to search around.

At school, our exotics club actually has representatives in each area, like zoo, aquatic, reptiles, small mammal, etc, and its their job to provide the club with this kind of information. and we have all of the possible conferences for the year posted on our board in the hallway.

hope that helps somewhat

Vet-med related ones. 😀 Haha. The two I'm sad about missing are the exotics symposium that happened in early February and the one that will happen in March (threads are around here somewhere...) I'm putting them both on my calendar for next year, though!

Exotics is my main area of interest too, but sadly the IAAAM conference is during finals week for me. Oh well -- another to put on the list for 2012!

I am registered to attend AAHA/OVMA conference becuase I frequent thier website and read articles on veternarian medicine.

this conference is free for students.

I found a good site that you can search for specific topics even. Check out www.vetagenda.com. It has conferences from all over the world too, so if you are just looking for ones in the states you can include that in your search. I'm the webmaster for APVMA, the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association at www.apvma.us. Your inquiry has inspired me to create a page/database for these conferences so check the website soon for information!

Vet Agenda also has online conferences listed!

Sweet! That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

I think it's awesome that you're creating a database for the APVMA site -- I think it will help more pre-vet students realize that conferences are often open to them, too, and not just vets/students already in vet school.

This is probably a stupid question, but how do you find out which conferences you can attend as a pre-vet (as opposed to a licensed vet or vet student)? I've been poking around and can't really find information. Does anyone know of any that will allow pre-vets to attend? I'm looking to go to some conferences during my year off 🙂
