Hi guys! Mods, feel free to delete this if one already exists but I couldn't find it anywhere.

First week of classes for many of us, I assume, so how is everyone doing? So far so good for me. I am sure the level of rigor will ramp up significantly more as we approach midterms (and I actually begin Structure and Function, which I am dreading a bit to be honest). I do feel like I am already juggling about 10 group projects.

im nearing the end of my second week... socially its been so much fun, I love my classmates. academically? dear god. ive never studied so much in my life and I'm just trying to catch up not even keep up. ive been falling asleep thinking about anatomy and our first quiz/test is next Friday and im just hoping and praying for a 50% since my friends that made it through the program both got around that grade for their first test

Anatomy is painful. I believe in us though! We only started thoracic limb muscles and I'm already in pain over it.

Starting our 4th week and about to get in to the grunt of having 2 tests a week. Did really well on my first anatomy exam and love the friends I’ve already made. So much studying but so excited to be doing this finally.

I’m at Mississippi State and we’re 2 months in already 😂 (started June 24). Since then we’ve already completed histology and we’re about to wrap up immunology in the next week or so. Just started infectious agents and neuroscience. RIP. Other than that I’ve been able to balance my school life with personal life (running, football games, going out to line dancing/drinks). Piece of advice. Even if you don’t think you’ll need it, take full advantage of the wellness/psychology services. Things can go south quickly and having a relationship with them before things hit the fan is advantageous in many ways 🙂

Finally had Structure and Function. I actually like it! It finally feels like I'm doing something tangibly vet-related, even if the patients are just paper ones. Immunology on the other hand... that was one of my big areas of interest coming into school, but 5 chapters in and it's just not... coming as easily as I thought. 👽

Finishing up week 3 with 2 exams this week and to be honest, I’m tired but doing well. In my experience “drinking out of a fire hose” hasn’t been from all the information learning so far, but rather the sheer amount of homework I’m given each week on top of classes and the outside studying. I was under the impression I’d be constantly studying for hours upon hours each day, but it’s more like 1-3 hours a day and like another 2-3 hours on homework. We’ll see how I feel in a month though 😂

Two weeks in and it feels like it's already been months, I'm tired y'all.

Also a little bummed in general due to massive life changes on top of starting class and not having the best time socially (when did everyone cement friend groups? orientation?? I'm a slow burn with people so that life isn't for me lol) but we still out here and kicking, I'm trying to give it time and am getting active in some clubs as a rep so hopefully that helps.

+1 to the not being spatially oriented and feeling weird about anatomy. I do well on the practice questions in class for the lecture portion and pick up the underlying theory relatively easily, but am anxious about the pinning part. Here's to hoping the first exam isn't too much of a train wreck because I have like 4 other exams following in quick succession that week and want to get good juju flowing.

So real. It didn't feel like that much information day-to-day but now starting week 3 and looking at the stack of notes from the first 2...

I feel your pain on the social aspect. I think part of it for me is the long 8 hours in class/lab a day means at every opportunity I end up going back to my apartment to rest instead of staying around for most of the extra lectures and social functions. I hope you find an awesome group you gel with soon!

Appreciation post for my study group. I don’t know how on earth we found each other, but I’ve never laughed so much while studying. I honstly don’t think I could be learning all this material on my own. I was really worried I wouldn’t make any friends in school either. Love them to death and hope it works out long-term.

Down two midterms, including last week's anatomy one. The lab exam actually wasn't too bad, even though I'm still beating myself up several days later over calling the transverse humeral retinaculum the rectus sheath...

Now a nice 2 week break until the next exam.

Alright friends, US schools are anywhere from a few weeks to a month left in first year. How we all doing?

Yay!! We have 2 weeks left at AVC as well, a few exams left but I feel prepared I guess. I can't believe first year is almost over already. It sounds cliche but I feel like I really came into my own this year & discovered so many new interests & things about myself (between all the tests, of course). Very grateful to experience everything life in vet school has to offer.

Mostly good- I am definitely proud of how far I have come and so proud of my friends and classmates as well. This last block is kicking my butt but we are getting through it! Only 4 more weeks!

Next week is the last week of finals and then summer break!!! Soo proud of my class and can’t wait to see my family 🥹❤️

I’m just ready for summer lol. Three weeks to go until summer break and then I’ll have a change of pace by finishing up my master’s degree this summer.

I'm so burnt out but still have a month before summer break. End of first year was kind of anticlimactic because it was in December and winter break felt too short. But thankfully I'll be halfway done with didactic work soon and this time next year I'll have already done my first spay or neuter 🙂
