Does it make a difference if you attend specialty program (ex. ortho, OMFS) annual meetings and events as a dental student for specialty applications? There are multiple people in my class (currently in D1 in a Canadian dental school) that are planning on attending conferences in the near future and I'm not sure if it even makes a big difference? Is there a possibility for networking and meeting PDs at these conferences?

Not sure about other specialties.. but in Endo you're competing with tons of applicants who have completed GPR/AEGDs, have experience, etc. so any extra exposure to the field is beneficial IMO. I (now a D4) went to my speciality's annual conference this past April and actually ran into/met the program director who ended up accepting me in August...not saying it's make or break, but it definitely didn't hurt my chances. Best of luck.
