For anyone interested there is a 2 page piece today in The New York Times about the current Director of the NIH, a former radiologist at Johns Hopkins.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/30/health/policy/30nih.html
The article asserts that radiologists are "acutely aware of conflict-of-interest issues" since they often recommend imaging equipment to hospitals after serving as consultants to the very companies that sell the equipment.
In my ignorance and naivete about the "business" of medicine, this is the first I've ever thought about such a situation.
What do others think? Have you seen or spoken with attendings or practicing radiologists about consulting's potentials and pitfalls?
