so apparently the minimum criteria for admission is 17 across 8 subsections, but i've seen people with 16s get in. can anyone explain this?

On the ADEA handbook, entering class of 2010.
DAT Required: 17
Range of DAT: 15-20AA
Maybe the 15's and 16's were legacies?
yes, albino African Americans

👍. Let's get serious: if Howard stuck to a minimum of 17, they wouldn't have a class.
As an african american student with scores way above 17s, id have to disagree with this statement. They may have a smaller class, but this assumption that every student at that school is some wayward, failing, undeserving students is absolutely ridiculous.
So, let's really be honest and say that without making exceptions to that rule, the number of minority students in dental school (excluding Asians as they are not an international minority) would drop to 4 per school, and the world would be missing out on wonderful health professionals.
My post had nothing to with race, so I have no idea why it was important to lead with your ethnicity. Actually, Asians are defined as a minority by the ADEA, but not in the health profession, so let's just not have a 'woe is me' attitude about it all. Howard has rather low requirements - that was my argument, and I don't think you can really argue with that.
I should apologize. I just had a very heated debate with a predental student at my school about Howard allowing unqualified doctors to practice, and then i came on here and saw this, so forgive me if i misinterpreted your intentions. They do have lower standards, but to say they wouldnt have a class (joking or not) -de-legitimizes the school in a way that i think is a little inappropriate and has an air of arrogance that I realize now you didn't intend. thats why i responded the way i did
so forgive me for that 🙂
I wouldn't apologize if I were you, what he said was CLEARLY ignorant.

Rude, blunt, honest...all synonyms, I guess.
@DocWheels - thanks for the clarification. That's exactly what I was trying to say.
