I got accepted into School A and waitlisted at School B. I have already paid my deposit, gotten a school email account, and submitted financial aid forms to School A. I was reading up on the AAMC traffic rules and they state that a school can't make an acceptance offer to someone who has already enrolled in another school. It goes on to say, "Enrollment is defined as being officially matriculated as a member of the school's first-year entering class." So my question is, what exactly does it mean to have matriculated? Did I already matriculate at School A? Did I hurt my chances at School B? Sorry if this seems like a silly question, I'm just really confused and worried that I might have done something wrong 😕

Matriculating is being there for the first day of class.

Don't worry, you didn't matriculate. I'm pretty sure matriculation counts as the first day of orientation. If you get off the WL at School B any time before then, you can switch. The rule is to prevent schools from poaching students who have already begun orientation/class elsewhere.

The deposit you paid reserves a spot for you in the entering class. After May 15th, you can only hold one acceptance (unless you're waitlisted at another school), but you can still get accepted from the waitlist. I think the rule you quoted is to prevent medical students already in medical school from applying again to another program.

I had classmates who left after 1 week of school after they found out they got off the waitlist at another school (that they liked better), so you'll be fine in any situation; it may just cost you some $$.

Wait... how does that work? I thought other schools could not make you an offer once you had started class?
