Hello everyone, I have been fortunate enough to have received interview invitations, but I am confused about my interview invitation to Loyola. I started my undergraduate degree in a community college where I completed all my premedical courses except biochemistry which I did at my university. I was reading Loyola's requirements since when you get invited to interview, there an agreement to click that states you meet the requirements. This is where my confusion comes from. In their requirements, they say two statements that seem contradicting to me:
  • Community college courses are accepted as fulfilling premedical requirements, but the committee strongly recommends at least 12 hours of science coursework from a four-year university or graduate program.
  • If enrolled full time and seeking an undergraduate degree, applicants must complete at least 75% of their premedical courses at the university from which the degree would be granted.
So, I am confused because I did all my premedical courses in my community college, so I don't have that 75% in university rule. I called and the person did not really answer my question, just said to email admission to tell them why I chose to do my premedical courses at a community college. I just don't understand why they would invite me to interview if I don't meet the requirements. I would really appreciate some feedback please. Thank you

It isn't crystal clear, however I would suspect that it is implied "If enrolled full time and seeking an undergraduate degree" means "currently." Since you've already graduated and thus can't change where you took your courses, I don't think that second rule applies to you.

If you're concerned, then do as the person you spoke to on the phone said and email to get a detailed response. Personally I think that it seems like you meet the requirements, though it is admittedly nebulous.

thank you, I will email them.

I agree with that assessment. If you graduated, that shouldn't apply to you any longer. It most likely is in reference to making sure a student can reasonably finish their pre-reqs and obtain their degree by the end of the cycle.

What is your explanation?

I decided to attend community college for many reasons. Number one being that I needed to save money especially since the pandemic came and my mom got diagnosed with cancer and I needed to be close to her since she needed care and translation help since she doesn't speak English. We are immigrants and we need to send money back home so my dad is the only that works, and his salary supports us but also our families back home so saving any money we can is important.

As I read the requirement, it is RECOMMENDED you still get 12 hours of coursework done at a 4-year institution. In my opinion, you satisfy that statement.

Loyola Stritch was the first medical school to welcome DACA applicants.
