Hi everyone. I am 22 years old and located in Dallas, Texas. I am currently a History major and about to graduate this summer (2013).

However, I have yet to complete Organic Chemistry 2 and haven't taken the MCAT. I also don't have the appropriate time to dedicate studying because I am taking 6 classes currently. I was originally planning on taking the MCAT in late summer and completing Organic Chemistry 2 in the summer as well, only to realize that August 1st is the deadline for fall applications.

I would not like to wait another year to register, but at the same time I'm not prepared for the MCAT as much as I would like to be (my gpa is sub-par currently). Any advice on what to do?

I wouldn't risk taking the mcats if you're not ready for it. You seem to know your own work load and your limits. I would trust your own instincts. Since you have not taken organic chemistry 2 I would focus on that. Why would you even try to take the mcat without understanding everything tested on it. My recommendation would be to take orgo 2 in the summer and begin to crack open the mcat study books. I do not see away for you to fill requirements as well as taking time for mcat studying. It is almost like a full time job to study for this test.

Don't take the MCAT until you're ready. Especially with a subpar GPA.

My inclination was to rush, but I can foresee my misfortune. I suppose with this extra time I can strive to 'pad' (I think is the pre-med term) my GPA. Thanks much for the advice.

Plus, you want to get your application in as close to the June application open date as possible. It would definitely be better to wait and rock the MCAT and apply early the following year. Being a reapplicant would suck more than doing it well the first time!
