The personal statement is the last item I need before I officially apply, however, I'm not sure if I took the right approach with it. I was always told that the PS should show your unique story and what piqued your interest in pursuing medicine. For me, I wrote about my grandmothers 15 year struggle with Alzheimer's and how that developed an interest in medicine. I was looking for someone to help edit it and look it over, and I was told premededit.com was a good and trustworthy source. I submitted my PS this morning and received a response within the hour. The comment I got from the editor was, "This essay is more than a 'story'. It needs to be a 'report' that gives the admissions committee sufficient information to conclude that you really know what a career in medicine entails. You have to give them the data so they draw their own conclusion that you would be a good addition to the profession." Her comment seems to contradict almost everything I wrote about, so I was wondering how you guys approached this. Also, if anyone would care to take a look at my PS so I could get another opinion, that would be greatly appreciated.

I'll take a look, you can PM me. Frankly, I'm not sure what that person is talking about without seeing your essay...those comments don't really make sense to me.

IMO, it's a bit of both. a narrative can be used to show why you became interested in medicine, but you also have to show you know what you're getting into and that you possess the qualities of a great physician.
