Hey guys,

I was just wondering...I'm pretty sure (correct me if i'm wrong) that transcripts are submitted to AMCAS as part of the primary application; however, I'm confused as to whether or not letters of recommendation are part of the primary application. I noticed that AMCAS does have a section for letters, but I wasn't sure if this was to facilitate the process. Also for schools that do use AMCAS for their letters, are traditional methods still acceptable (mail), b/c my school has its own letter distribution system.

I think I can at least answer the last portion regarding med schools that use the AMCAS letter service. I know that Mayo starting this year will only accept letters through this service. As for other schools, I am not sure, but I imagine they would all start moving towards this because maybe it is easier.

Your school's forwarding service will likely send it to AMCAS for you. Talk to them about their protocol.

LORs remain a separate part of the AMCAS application and are not required for completion of the primary app.

When can you send LORs to AMCAS then? When the app opens may 5th or do you have to wait until june?

Oh that's an interesting question. Another one is how long does it take them to process the LORs?

This whole pilot program is a pain. How come we got screwed with the CBT MCAT and the pilot LORs and the CBC program? And then my alma mater decides to switch from committee to forwarding service which adds even more complication into my life. I demand a useful change like being able to roll forward your courses/GPAs from a previous AMCAS onto a new AMCAS.
