Hey guys

First of all its amazing how resourceful this site/forums are. Onto the questions:

I am a Canadian trying to apply to an american dent school (well obviously not until the upcoming cycle). I will have my canadian dat scores by the time the cycle opens up in june...however i will be doing tje american dat on june 29. My question is...is that okay if i put in my cdat scores on the aadsas site (yes im only applying to universities that accept canadian dat, only reason why im doing the american dat is because i read on a gazillion sites that schools prefer american scores).

Also 2nd question is: I basically have to send 4 LOR to aadsas right? Or do i need to submit the LORs to individual schools? I called BU and Baylor and they said they just look at the aadsas ones. Is this the case for every school?

Hello fellow Canuck! I don't know about the first question (since I'm also a US citizen--dual citizenship--and didn't have to go through that), but for the second question, I remember only needing 3 LORs submitted to AADSAS. Schools usually don't accept LORs sent to them and only look at those on AADSAS.

BTW, I would reconsider Baylor if I were you. Texas schools--although super awesome and cheap--are not known to be OOS (or international) friendly. You're just going against the grain if you were to apply.

Thanks for the quick reply! Oh whopps I meant 3. Im confused so did you just take the american dat? Did you do your undergrad in the states then, im assuming. Lol i know. I have a list of like 30 universities set..i have to shortlist to about 10. Dnt think Baylor will make the cut haha

i am a texas resident and it's true. only for in-state and very hard to get into as OOS. U have better chances of getting into at stony brook than any Texas school.

Also part of it is my dad wants me to apply to atleast one texas school since he works there. I know me getting into a tex school will be next to impossible but hmmmm

Yeah, I did my undergrad in the states and took the American DAT. 🙂. Lived half my life in Canada and the other half in the US.

Ahh thats awesome. If you dont mind me asking... are the major differences between the two countries (lifestyle wise)?

If your cDAT scores are good, then you should be able to apply to 10 schools that will gladly accept the Canadian DAT. I applied this past cycle to 10 schools with only the cDAT and it was fine. Writing the American DAT will open up some more options, but its not a necessity, imo. As for putting your cDAT scores on AADSAS, just put them in the section that asks for the Canadian DAT. Then, in the section for the American DAT, just fill in the day that you will be writing it.

Good luck.

If you are in the Toronto area, I'm doing a recruitment reception with our alumni office in Toronto. We've closed pre-registration but you should still be able to attend if you are seriously interested. The reception is today between 6pm and 8pm: http://cwrusodm-toronto.eventbrite.com .

If not, you should be able to join all of the dental schools during the Dental School Virtual Fair in April. Go to www.godental.org to register in advance for the Virtual Fair.

I personally love Canada more, but maybe because that was where I grew up and had really fond memories. Lifestyles should be more or less the same, depending on where you are in the states. East side of Canada (Ontario and Quebec) should be similar to the East Coast in the US (NY, MA, PA). The south and the west coast are pretty different, lifestyle-wise, from Canada. But I've only been exposed to Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario and haven't been to other provinces. Yeah, I would totally love to go to a Canadian dental school, but they're so freaking hard to get in, not to mention I'd be considered OOP in every province. 🙁.

@BlackThought Thanks for the advice, appreciate it

@Casedental med No I am in Calgary, would you have anything around there in April?

@doctoothache Thank you that was very helpful

@stickybear I am originally from Ontario but doing my undergrad in Alberta. But thats awesome to hear! I can definitely see how the east coast is similar to canadian cities especially one like Toronto or Montreal (barring the language difference). Lol yep most of them ask for grades that Harvard would ask for in the US.
