with the recent budget cuts at state schools, I find myself fighting to get into the classes that I need for pre-med. I am a sophomore (2nd semester), and should be in chem 1B aka chem 2,= this semester, along with bio 2. I am fairly certain I will get into bio 2 this semester, but chem 2, I am not so sure, in fact I am ccertain I will not get into it this semester. what does this mean for me? Will I be forced to take the mcat late, graduate a semester late, or have to apply to med school late? I took chem 1A last semester and bio 1 last semester, and should be following the normal chain up but find myself in this situation. perhaps, I should try to get into physics this semester, but the question remains what about chem 2?? summer school is not an option, as I am already jam packed during summer. plus it wouldnt do me any good on the MCAt by breezing through chem 2 in 4 weeks, plus med schools frown upon it. By here is the email i sent to my teacher and his reply

I am one of your Chem 1B students, or at least trying to be. I attended your 1:30 - 2:45 lecture today, and arrived at your 3:00 - 5:30 lab today, but found a gang of students trying to add to the wait list. Unfortunately, Tuesday/Thursday are the only days I am available to take classes, and have tried to add Chem 1B ever since my registration opened up. I was at the top of the waiting list (position 3), but received an email from the school stating the wait list will be dumped and admission is left up to the discretion of the teachers. I am not a graduating senior, but rather a last semester sophomore, Biochem major. I know you are being overwhelmed with students wanting to add at this point, but I need your view on what my options are. It is devastating to me that if I can not add Chem 1B this semester, my MCAT will be delayed and my medical school applications will be delayed an entire semester, or up to a year. I know overtime, students drop the class, even when it is full in the beginning, as I witnessed in Chem 4 and Chem 1A. I know this will happen with students in Chem 1B as well, and am wondering if I should stick it out in hopes that I can occupy a slot as soon as someone drops. I understand it is a longshot, but at this point I feel hopeless and frustrated.

Unfortunately many students are in difficult situations and are trying to add the course. I have talked with department chair but I do not see any new sections. Also, after we add one or two students to each lab, those on the wait list can not stay. We do not have the space and it becomes too crowded and we do not have always sufficient equipment.
