Just looking through some posted interviews at EVMS and noticed that interview on 9/20/04 (posted 9/22/2004 7:43:37) references VCOM's OD program, but is listed under EVMS... Just wanted to clarify, as I think you interviewed for the new OD program at VCOM but accidentally listed under EVMS. Thanks!

I saw that too. It must be a mistake. Nothing in the post had anything to do with EVMS.

Hi there,
Perhaps this might clarify the matter: The complete name of the DO (osteopathic medical and not OD) school in Virginia (not a state school but a private school) is the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Some people will refer to the school as the EVMS or Edward Via Medical School which lends to confusion with Eastern Virginia Medical school (a state allopathic medical school in Norfolk). Eastern Virginia grants the MD degree and is generally referred to as EVMS or Eastern Virginia Medical school.

There are three state medical schools in Virginia. All three grant the MD degree. These are University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University(or formerly Medical College of Virginia) and Eastern Virginia.

There is one private medical school in Virginia. It is the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine which grants the DO or Doctor of Osteopathic medicine degree. (This is not the same degree as OD or Doctor of optometry)

njbmd 🙂
