I recently graduated from GWU this may with a GPA of 2.89 with a BS in biology. I am planning on applying to a bunch of dental schools this year for the 08 session. My DAT scores are a 21 TS 22 AA and 23 PAT. Now, I am not sure what I should do to help my resume. I was told by some to take a one year masters or post bacc program to boost my GPA, but are there any programs that are still accepting applications?? I was also told I could take some more upper level biology courses and maybe take Chem over since I got AP credit for it. Would this be the better choice?? I was planning to continue working for a dentist while taking classes, but not sure if this could work. PLEASE HELP
I was told during a d-school interview to continue taking upper level science courses instead of doing a masters or research since graduate students are graded differently. If you could do both, work at a dental office and take courses, I think you'd be in great shape. If not, I'd recommend taking courses and working elsewhere b/c its the gpa they really wanna see. Best of luck to ya..
i would personally contact a couple schools you're very interested in and see if they can offer you advice. even if you take a bunch of courses and ace them, your gpa will only rise slightly..albeit you will have an upward trend which is nice.
the 1 year SMP is nice b/c it's a fresh slate, all upper level bio-science courses (the kinda you'll take in d-school). if you walk out of that with a great gpa you're def. in at some nice programs.
i never really understand why people are so against SMP's b/c they don't count towards your "undergrad gpa"... adcoms are human..they will see you did a masters program & rocked it. + the awesome DAT score and you're IN!
