i have a feeling i won't enjoy/be interested in the majority of the classes in med school. will i hate life if i get into med school?

While I can't say whether or not you'll hate life, I can speak from my own experience which tells me that the more interested you are in a particular class, the less painful it feels to learn the more mundain details of that subject. So ideally, if you love every one of your classes, you'll obviously be less miserable than someone who doesn't even like the material or find it interesting. I would guess that a person who didn't like the material would get burned out really quickly, similar to the way I would if I were forced to learn about tax law.

The more you like a subject the more you'll like studying it and the better your grades will consequently be most of the time. While the amount you study doesn't correlate necessarily to your grades, in general I think it's true. So to answer the question, no, I think that if you don't like the classes in med school then I think you'll have problems.

Why do you not think you'll like your classes? Do you not like science?

oh i love science, but i don't like most of the macro bio--i only like molecular/cell

You should not go to medical school if you don't think you will enjoy it, i.e. don't waste your years in life doing something you won't enjoy. You should consider a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology. You can still indirectly help people by creating new drugs or treatment regimens for diseases.

Please show me the person that "enjoys" studying for the MCAT, for histology, and for microbiology or pharm for hours on end. 🙄

You may or may not enjoy med school. Hopefully you will be able to tolerate it. Also understand that it is 4 yrs out of your entire life. Just come to terms with the idea that anything worthwhile is going to be a struggle...regardless of whether you are getting your MD, PhD, or even raising a family....it's hard but make sure the end justifies the means.

I can honestly say that I enjoied studying for Step One this summer, AND I kinda thought that studying for the MCAT was cool. I enjoied figuring out the questions and passages. I am one that loves a challenge. I think that is one of the more important aspects of a good medical student, you must love the 'hunt' so to speak. You thrive off of making youself 'smarter', learning new things, and figuring out medical "puzzles'
